OpenAI releases ChatGPT to widespread national media attention
This week, we cover how Elon Musk's long-winded attempt to avoid buying Twitter ends in failure – resulting in a $44 billion acquisition beset by massive firing sprees, advertiser flight, a rise in hate speech, and pending ex-employee lawsuits. But is all as bad as it seems?
The cryptocurrency exchange FTX, once flying high with endorsements from athletes like Tom Brady, Steph Curry, and Naomi Osaka, flounders after CoinDesk's report reveals shady links with the owner's other company, Alameda Research. Founder Sam Bankman-Fried faces allegations of fraud and mismanagement of funds, telling media that he had "a bad month."
OpenAI, co-founded by Sam Altman and former board member Elon Musk, releases ChatGPT – a chatbot based on its latest GPT 3.5 update. Stunning media and the general public alike with its polish and ease of use, this model is a step forward in publicly-available AI large language models. ChatGPT is able to write academic essays, poetry, televangelism rants, and a numberless array of text samples. But what's it doing with the data that it collects? And is it as innocent as it first appears?
