Amplifying FE fundinfo's Acquisition of Dericon

FE fundinfo is a leading financial data company connecting the asset management industry to distribution networks in the UK, Europe and Asia Pacific.

Challenge

  • Our client, FE fundinfo had brought us on to help with a major new acquisition announcement. It was taking over Dericon, a pioneering fintech in Germany’s wealth management industry. This was a major milestone in FE fundinfo’s growth journey, which needed to be reflected in a major splash of coverage in the media. 
  • The announcement would likely have a receptive audience in fintech and fund management circles, but we needed to tell a bigger narrative on the story of FE fundinfo’s journey if we were to reach wider tier 1 business press across both the UK and DACH.

Strategy

  • Engage with the big picture - We worked with FE fundinfo on storylines to extract from the release. On one level there was the significance of the acquisition itself, linking up FE fundinfo clients with one of the largest distribution channels for asset managers in Germany: the Sparkassen group - a network of public banks with 50+ million customers. But, in discussion with the team, we took it further, tying into recent success for FE fundinfo (7th acquisition since 2021) and the continued realisation of the company’s vision to “connect investment product information and asset managers with distribution networks, for investors”.
  • Regional teams - The announcement was significant for all of FE fundinfo’s Europe-wide operations, and beyond. As a result, we deployed regional teams in Germany to pitch the story to local tier 1 media, as well as fully aligning with FE fundinfo’s internal teams sharing the release in other regions like Luxembourg.
  • Phased media pitching - In partnership with FE fundinfo, we built a long-term media strategy for the announcement. This ensured full transparency and agreement between everyone on goals, target publications, and timeline for the announcement. All teams were fully briefed and clear on angles for pitching, ensuring everyone had what they needed for local media. This began with an exclusive pitch approach, cascading into embargo outreach in the run up to go-live.
